What is the new Science of Consciousness? Most people believe (as dictionaries tell us) that consciousness is awareness. Given that it is about one per cent, what happened to the remaining ninety-nine per cent? Few people know because consciousness is a process, not an entity, just as a manufacturing process is not a commodity. Let’s begin this study with the basics.

  • Plant life is conditional. Plants remain in one place, wholly dependent on localised nutrients.
  • Animal life is perceptual. They can move from place to place and adapt themselves to nature. (They can change colour, grow defensive attributes, hibernate, etc.)
  • Human life is volitional. As opposed to animals, we adapt nature to ourselves. (We build dams, railroads, houses, and computers.)

Consciousness is a mental processing capability within our being, just as our lungs, heart, liver, and kidneys are processing faculties. The conscious process depends on our thoughts and values, just as our digestive system depends on what we eat, drink, or inhale. Thus, consciousness is life-related, not matter-related.

Our cognitive mind has the faculties of reason, free will, and imagination. Imagination may powerfully take our thoughts to places unknown and give us images of potential and possibilities. Its higher purpose, about which we are taught nothing, is to implant ‘value’ concepts and principles of our cognitive mind into the ‘image vocabulary’ of the subconscious mind. That shows that our Creator has gifted a value exchange model between individuals of different countries, races, and cultures. A perfect model for cultural diversity and trade thus exists right within our value-monitoring system, exactly where it belongs.

Our conscious mind can stimulate the subconscious mind into action, change habits, reverse destructive thinking patterns, improve physical and emotional health, influence involuntary functions, and even search beyond our conscious limitations. We can converse with our subconscious mind through images and imagination, freely explain our values and desires, and express gratitude for its remarkable ability to honour our choices.

Our subconscious mind, about 92% of the complete conscious process, has two control tasks.

Involuntary Control: It automatically controls all involuntary functions, including heart, lungs, breathing rate, and adrenaline release, 24/7/365 for decades, without sleep. Simultaneously, it monitors and regulates all internal body functions, lungs, heartbeat, blood pH, etc. It also produces emotions in the form of feelings.

Voluntary Control: The subconscious mind accepts our free–will instructions to act (e.g., talk, listen, climb, eat, drive, dance, etc.) and monitors and controls all necessary muscle functions to achieve our goals. With the least effort, it masters the physical body through repeating patterns. It remembers everything, including processes, experiences, and values. Although it takes direction from the conscious mind, it uses metaphors, imagery, and symbols. It does not process negative pleas. Indeed, it refuses all negativity to interface with our soul directly. Our subconscious mind cannot discern, evaluate, judge, or create since that would overrule our free will choices and undermine our cognitive abilities. Nonetheless, it uses its (integrative) ‘perceptive’ ability to package and transmit vast sums of information.

The subconscious mind is open to our conscious sway but not to external influence, save what we permit. If it were not open to persuasion by our conscious mind, our chosen values would mean nothing. Furthermore, subconscious functionality suffers if we do not cognitively authenticate outside information by choice.

The subconscious mind’s automated processes cannot be overridden or countermanded by the conscious mind. Accordingly, the subconscious mind refuses all harm to its processes but admits harmful content that free will approves. It follows that while mind control programs may traumatise free will into submission, to control our actions subversively, our submission under duress is not free will acceptance.

Given all those acceptances and restraints, the Creator has tasked our subconscious mind to uphold our lives on autopilot. We cannot alter that ‘process’ because it is fully automated. We can alter the (value) ‘content’ of the information it processes, and that is our secret to untold success.

Because the subconscious mind cannot work in a vacuum, any more than an empty stomach can process food, implanting our most cherished life values into its database is vitally rewarding. We can choose what we value materially, intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. The subconscious will accept what we choose as ‘value’ and prioritise it. We can change its database’s (value) content, thus producing different outcomes.

Our subconscious mind uses its ‘perceptive’ (integrative) ability to package and transmit vast sums of information. Our cognitive mind uses words, concepts, and principles for the same purpose.

Because our operating system is vastly different from animals, we must assume that the Creator also said,

’let men and women have free will to uphold their life in the manner they choose. Let them have a conscious mind that communicates with a subconscious mind so they may choose their values and receive reports through feelings and emotions so they can alter their behaviour or change their values thus to advance intellectually, emotionally, morally, and spiritually.’

Grasp the enormity of what that means, and you will see that our Creator has gifted a value exchange model between individuals of different countries, races, and cultures. A perfect model for cultural diversity and trade thus exists right within our value-monitoring system, exactly where it belongs.

Sentience is the sensory ability to feel or perceive feelings and emotions, much as we perceive a thing or an event. It also allows us to entertain nonphysical theories and ideas, thus unavailable through our five senses. We must ‘identify’ what real thing or event a particular theory or postulate refers to.

People can be ‘aware’ as a group, but since consciousness is a singular process within each of us, directed by our free will, no such thing as a collective consciousness can exist, any more than a unified stomach, kidney, or liver exists. Our cognitive mind connects our spiritual values to the physicality of our body and the world. Likewise, the subconscious mind interfaces our spiritual values with our soul. Thus, the whole conscious process interfaces physicality on one hand and spirituality on the other, whereby we each are spiritual beings living a spiritual life, albeit in a material world. Physicality is merely a toolbox for exercising our spiritual life and nature.

Free will is voluntary consciousness. It is the gatekeeper of our subconscious mind. It opens the gate of acceptance to all ideas, truths, postulates, beliefs, wishes, whims, propaganda, and indoctrinations or shuts that gate by our refusal. Free choice allows us to discover values and benefits that advance our lives and to reject those that do not. The greater our value assessment, the higher our commitment to attain it will be.

‘Will’ is the conscious intention to think, reason, inquire, research, discover, and evaluate difficulties and benefits. ‘Will’ is our commitment and determination to succeed, and we can exercise it. Free will is not a simple yes/no switch. Our free will process is constrained, but our mental content is unrestrained! Our free will cannot interfere with the subconscious process, thereby protecting it. Once grasped that our subconscious mind protects our free will by sandwiching its processes, you can choose to master the incredible power of the science of consciousness, all of your desires fully automated. Stress fades to near nil while the joys of life explode. When you learn to master your mind, the tremendous power of your subconscious mind becomes your buddy. Altogether, our Creator has used similar governance principles biologically, psychologically, and spiritually. Natural laws governing our functioning exist on the biological, conscious, subconscious, and spiritual planes.

My book ‘Conscious Ascendance’ thoroughly explains the New Science of Consciousness Diagram.
