Ethical and moral benchmarks are exceedingly challenging today because the conscious process is largely unknown. As a result, invented ideas often take precedence.
- Moral relativism suggests that no absolute rules exist to determine whether something is right or wrong. Instead, these rules depend on opinion, consensus, social context, culture, and various other factors. Consequently, concepts of right and wrong are not fixed; they can vary from one situation, person, or circumstance to another. Moral relativism seemingly grants autonomy, allowing individuals to act in their own interests. However, this also means that the government can undermine that autonomy by simply changing the rules.
- In contrast, moral realism posits that there are some objective moral truths. But where can these truths about ethical and moral benchmarks be found when we have limited understanding of the conscious process? The answer lies in learning.
As individuals, we are the authors of our actions, which means we are the originators of our morality—or lack thereof—and are fully accountable for both. Accordingly, there is no such thing as a collective morality or a truly moral society; rather, what exists is an aggregate of moral individuals. This understanding of ethical and moral benchmarks allows for the development of a moral code defined by self-mastery, which respects and ensures the freedom of others.
Profound change from Ethical and Moral benchmarks
When ethics is properly ascribed to value-charged thought processes, and morality is properly restored to wilfully chosen actions, a most profound result occurs.
Ethics and morality are both removed from the social (collectivist) arena and placed squarely in the (individual) ‘private domain,’ all governmental intrusion forbidden.
- All of today’s beliefs concerning ethics and morality are challenged.
- All collectivised jurisdictional claims over ethics and morality are invalidated and denied.
- All natural law theories that hold that morality determines man's laws are overturned.
Every ethic necessary for supporting our lives is inherent within us and readily available for our interactions with others. Ethical and moral education is truly established when we discover and understand these conscious process principles.
What more could we desire? The days of enforcing rules with fines, prisons, and violence are behind us. The intrinsic natural laws embedded within our nature demonstrate that our free will in determining our values and purpose is inherently spiritual. Each aspect influences the other. Therefore, we are “spiritual beings living a spiritual life,” even while inhabiting a physical body and environment.
Amazing progress from Ethical and moral benchmarks
By this means–
- Ethics are our personal benchmark.
- Justness and morality are our social benchmark; the sum of just actions and testament of our morality.
The societal circle is now complete, just as we each are whole in ourselves. To arrive at anything less would be to confess thinking errors or lack of thought.
By ascribing ethics to the thought process and morality to behaviour, three things result.
- Ethics and morality are separated from each other as sciences, just as individuals and the collective are different.
- Justness and justice concern (moral) actions, not prior (ethical) intentions.
- As mentioned, ethics and morality are removed from the (collective) ‘political domain,’ and placed squarely in the individual, ‘private domain’.
Ethics switches from opinionated consensus to objective science, or at least to an objective code of ethics. Once grasped that morality or immorality is outwardly broadcast to all others, no difficulty should arise from freely choosing moral actions and bearing all consequences. Ethics and moral benchmarks are thereby established.
Societal freedom is now possible
These ethics and moral benchmarks offer profound change on a global scale.
Convivial Society: Convivial society results from moral actions in aggregate. Independence, one from another, enters with respect for each other. Co-operation amongst equals, or one’s likes, results in mutual benefit.
Living Justice: Those who prize ethics and morality as spiritual progenitors of life relish these steering virtues because others thereby learn respect and unceasing justness from their joint dealings. Moral actions are the flip side of natural justice.
