Before discussing how we might re-program subconscious mind, several questions arise.
- What is the subconscious mind?
- Is it pre-programmed, and if so, how?
- Is it feasible to re-program subconscious mind?
- If so, what tools are needed?
An article entitled, A Hindu Priest explains how your subconscious mind can be reprogrammed, describes how we might visualise subconscious mind as the unseen portion of an iceberg which remains underwater. Indeed this analogy is referred to by many people, wherein the prefix of ‘sub,’ refers to ‘sub-conscious mind’ being just below our conscious awareness. Seemingly, this location renders it untouchable, meaning that we have no control or influence over it. Nonetheless, it is constantly active, collecting and processing data even when we sleep.
Conscious, Subconscious, and Unconscious.
In the early 1900’s Sigmund Freud postured a theory of psychopathologies. Freud proposed that the human mind contains three levels of awareness or consciousness, these being the conscious, subconscious, and unconscious. All work together, he asserted. Few professionals are inclined to dismiss Freud’s psychoanalytical theory, so it remains popularly accepted. Freud’s thoughts have undoubtedly shaped our present day theories of the human mind.
Has this answered question 1? Only partially I submit. Freud argued that one’s behaviour, habits, and urges are guided and influenced by contents of the unconscious sub-regions of the mind. On the bottom level, selfish motives, aggression, and socially unacceptable desires populate the unconscious level of our mind. One level above, fears, doubts, and memory constitute the subconscious mind, or pre-conscious level, in Freud’s words.
Founder of analytical psychology, Carl Jung, echoed Freud’s thoughts to a degree. ‘Jungian psychology’ holds ‘until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life, and you will call it fate.’
Is subconscious mind pre-programmed?
Some will debate this notion of fate and so they should, I submit. If our mind is pre-programmed by some means, then it is biased in some way, meaning we have no free will.
Conversely, if we have conscious (free will) ability to alter the content of our subconscious mind, then it is programmable whereby fate is dismissed. Accepting that our mind process, is very different from its content, then surely the question has two elements.
- Is the process of subconscious mind pre-programmed? Answer – yes.
- Is the content of subconscious mind pre-programmed? Answer – no.
Process and content must be divorced, so let’s ask why we have a subconscious mind. What need or service does it perform? Given free will to choose our desires at the conscious level, why is an underlying process even needed? The answer to all is straightforward. Subconscious mind exists to uphold our life, no less than our heart and lungs. That is its purpose and task.
Subconscious mind is continually re-programmed
Its process has both voluntary and involuntary functions. The voluntary process serves our choices. It acts on our muscles through the nervous system so that we can walk, climb, drive, play and work. Jointly, this automatic subconscious process serves efficiency by adjusting heart and breathing rates, releasing adrenaline and so forth. It monitors our progress and fine-tunes muscle movements to fulfil every present moment task. Further, it surveys our progress and delivers (emotional) reports in the form of feelings.
As we switch from task to task, or to a restful state, so the information in our subconscious data base changes regularly, but the functioning process does not. Data continually updates every millisecond, 24/7/365 for the span of our life, while the process remains constant so that (free will) data cannot corrupt.
Can we re-program subconscious mind?
Yes, indeed, but how exactly? What tools will reprogram the subconscious mind? The above-referenced article offers that sages and personal development coaches have long known that our automated regions of our consciousness may be programmable with deliberate intention. Affirmation and mantra are said to most usefully serve this purpose. Today’s science asserts that sounds and vibrations positively affect the mental and physiological planes, and so we speak of increasing our vibrations.
“The day science begins to study non-physical phenomena, it will make more progress in one decade than in all the previous centuries of its existence.” —Nikola Tesla
Will energy and vibrations suffice? If so, what will determine the qualitative state of our energy, frequencies, and vibrations? The answer is simple I submit. If subconscious mind exists to uphold life, and we seek to program its data base beneficially, then we should consciously choose life-supportive values. We should inform subconscious mind that our free will (cognitive) mind is on the same page, not split off in a different direction. Ideally, we should fine tune our energies, frequencies, and vibrations in spiritual terms, rather than material terms. Differently said, life supporting values and virtues will turbocharge the subconscious mind to do what Creator ordained more efficiently.
What tools will re-program subconscious mind?
Should we merely repeat (wholly positive) mantra’s, 100 times or more as the above-referenced article suggests? Sounds are vibrations surely. Or should we employ clear visualisation, and a correspondent feeling, as the article further suggests? Should we go further and impassion the visualisation of our desires almost as though they already exist. What if we learned how to consciously implant subconscious mind with our most cherished (spiritual) values, or virtues, fully understanding its life-long support?
My book, Law From Within, devotes several chapters to life-values and how to program subconscious mind. To avoid failure or disappointment, disease or distress, we should choose our values wisely and with vigilance.
Within each of us are natural laws that show how we can live on this planet in thriving, peaceful societies. By exploring our true nature, we can reach a deeper understanding of ourselves. Then we can program our subconscious mind with life-values that uphold those natural laws. All it takes is free will to reject all distractions and nonsense, then turbocharge the powerhouse that Creator endowed. Just think how powerful life can be when our two minds act in unison, with our blessing!
